Epica, é sem dúvida nenhuma uma das melhores bandas de gothic metal do mundo. De origem holandesa, a banda foi fundada por Mark Jansen, ex-After Forever. Com o belíssimo vocal de Simone Simons a banda vem ganhando novos fãs (e também novos críticos) a cada ano que se passa. Não sei como isso é possível, mas tem muita gente que odeia o Epica. Pra quem não sabe, a Simone estudava Jazz e Clássico e só começou a estudar canto lírico após ouvir Tarja Turunen num álbum do Nightwish. É possível observar que a Simone, vem melhorando a cada álbum lançado, o que faz com que a banda cresça cada vez mais. Uma coisa que o Mark trouxe do After Forever para o Epica, é sua paixão por culturas antigas como a Egípcia e a Maia, o que é possível de se notar na composição de várias músicas e também na capa dos álbuns, o Consign To Oblivion é um bom exemplo disso. Uma última curiosidade sobre a banda, é que seu nome foi uma homenagem ao cd do Kamelot: Epica, que era o favorito do grupo e na época e foi aceito após uma sugestão de seu produtor, que coincidentemente era o mesmo dos alemães.
