Ministry, uma das bandas mais pesadas de todos os tempos, é sinônimo de Rock Industrial. Foi a primeira a unir os riffs do Heavy Metal com bateria eletrônica, sintetizadores e samplers.É difícil falar sobre a importância do Ministry para as variantes do Heavy Metal tradicional que viriam a surgir mais à frente, mas basta dizer que, sem Ministry, bandas como Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, White Zombie, Fear Factory, Skatenigs e até Slipknot não existiriam (e muitas outras ...)
A sonoridade pioneira da banda também serviu paraa turma que gostava de metal ou rock pesado quebrar o preconceito com a sonoridade eletrônica, e vice-versa. Mas não podemos falar que o Ministry era um grupo comercial ou que tinha um som acessível, porque isso não refletia de jeito nenhum realidade da banda.
InícioTrabalhou como DJ em rádios até criar o grupo Special Affect, junto com Frankie Nardiello (My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult), mais conhecido como Groovie Mann. Em 1981, com o baterista Stephen George, montou em Chicago o Ministry e lançou o single Cold Life, pelo selo Wax Trax!, com um som muito próximo ao feitos por grupos como Human League e Thompson Twins.
